New Intro to Journalism course

Kimberly Turner, 1/11/2006, 10:12:58 AM

I would like to start a new course, Intro to Journalism. I would focus on skills needed for both yearbook and newspaper. The class would be a pre-req for yearbook and newspaper. Students could decide which class to take after the introductory course. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to start this class or a syllabus/course description I can take to my administration?

Thanks,

Kimberly Turner

4. Advertising (sales and production/design)

5. Business--books, billing

6. Photography and cutline writing and art, feature and cartooning.

Mistake on writing--please add sports in place of the second "news" in my above postings. Sports writing has a lingo and style of its own. We use a special style guide in addition to A.P. style. During the writing section, we do focus on A.P style for the editing section.

Just wondering what that special guide is that you were talking about using in addition to the AP style for sports journalism.

We use Sports style guide and reference manual: the complete reference for sports editors, writers and broadcasters, triumph boods, Jennifer Swan editor isbn 1-57243-101-6

hope it helps--there may be another edition out as ours is a few years old.
