What do you do on your backpage?

Grace, 1/8/2006, 1:18:35 PM

We recently got our backpage reviewed by MIPA (the Michigan Interscholastic Rress Association), and they said that it was over indulgent and that it seemed like the students in charge of the backpage were showing off. As of now, we have a comic, a funny blog, and an interesting fact. Next year, our backpage needs changing, so what do you guys do on your backpage?

We put a unique back page on NSPA View a while back:

Oh wow! That looks great. Doing an event calendar is a great idea. I wish our newspaper was printed in color.

We do a photo essay - a story told only in pictures in captions. It's very visual and fun for students, because there isn't much text.

hatfetish1213@gmail.com if you have questions. :-)

What's on our backpage?

Ads.

We need the money.

We also have ads, but we try to do something fun, like a crossword puzzle. Grace, I think your back page sounds awesome. If you like your back page, don't change it. Just because adults don't like doesn't mean students don't. Ask some of your friends what they think. What good does it do to have a paper that the MIPA likes if your readers don't? I think our paper might actually take your ideas. We've found that people who read the back page just want something fun and quick. Think of the back page as your front page for kids that don't especially like to read. Oh, and for everyone else, we do a crossword based on the stories in the paper. Whoever answers all the questions right and turns it in first wins doughnuts, and it makes people read the paper.

We have an ad at the top, and then a column we call "Name that Teacher."

We interview a teacher and write down five interesting facts about them. Then we have students guess who it is. They bring it to our office, and we send them a gift card.

With a little box for the student's info and a short intro, it seems to be the perfect back page.

We have sports on out back page. Usually our best sports photos/stories go on the back page because we have color on that back page.
