it sounds kind of dumb but it actually turned out really well...

I edit the spreads for the Harbinger, and here's what we've covered so far this year:
- Gas prices
- Hurricane Katrina
- Pressures on students (academic, athletic, social) and how they deal with them
- Alternate religions (ie not Christianity or Judaism) and what they mean for high school kids
- a different look at our high school play ("Behind the curtain-" costume, lights and student director) and how they influence the play itself
- Student entrepreneurs
- The senior paper - all aspects of it.
What you really should look for is one topic that you feel your student body could connect to or a topic that people would be interested in, and spin off it. Ask yourself what are different angles you could take on the one topic, and what are different things that could interest/help your readers.
If you have questions, email hatfetish1213@gmail.com. Best of luck!

we've done double trucks where we visited four different schools in our area and took photos and compared the schools to us. we also did a high school reality television spread and a movie high school vs. real high school.
another one we did was all about "teen body imaging"
we try to keep our spreads relavent to high school students since it's the biggest feature in the paper and takes the most work!

I'm the co-editor of my school paper, The Purple Haze, and the part of our paper that gets the most recoginition is our Blind Date: Nooksack.
My staff chooses two people (mostly upper classmen, because they can drive) and then they get a donation from a restaurant around the town. Then, we have the two Blind-Daters show up, be surprised and go on their "date." After the date, we review them, ask them funny questions and whatnot, how they would "Rate the Date." But the coolest part is during the date, they have a tape-recorder taping everything they say. Then, after the date, someone transcribes the date. Granted, it can be a little tricky, because sometimes you need to cut out parts of the convo because people may start talking about students and teachers at the school in a negative way... But generally they turn out really funny and my staff takes quirky pictures and puts funny quotes around the date and whatnot. Anyways, that's pretty much the jist. If anyone has questions though, they can email me at babs2415@msn.com

We did a mini-profile of teachers, finding one who graduated in the 60s, 70s, etc. It turned out to be one of our most popular spreads to this point ... This month we're featuring the SAT/ACT and our state-mandated tests ... Good luck!

Hey, we're trying something like, where are they now? and right now we're featuring student art like poems, stories, photos and sketches. Mostly though, we do a crontroversial topic. OUr principal rarely lets us do anything controversial, but he is begining to see that if you have 2 pages dedicated to something, you can cover it pretty thouroughly. Anyway, we've done Drugs, achohol abuse, teen sex, one edition came out on halloween, so we covered the controversy behind it . We also did the gay straight allience, which actually got a lot of good feedback. Our next big one will be abuse, like in relationships and stuff
