Nov. Feature/Ent. Ideas

Angela, 10/8/2005, 9:11:37 PM

Hey guys! I need to think of feature and entertainment ideas. What are some good ideas for entertainment? Sorry...I'm not really "in the know" all that well. Also, for feature, I can't really think of anything to do that's not too cliche. We've already done polls and holiday articles a ton, and it's getting old. We've also done teacher of the month/car of the month etc. Anyone have any unique ideas for feature? Please help me thanks so much! Any advice is appreciated!

well, i was reading ur question and i'm totally not 'in the know' about entertainment either. and maybe u should actually use that as ur topic. focus it toward pple who may not know exactly what's going on. think of it as a learning experience and research different aspects of entertainment (concerts, movies, shows, underground bands (idk if u really have many where u live - i'm in ny. ...but u get my drift). anyway u can also do like a 'Catch Up" article that gives the latest drama in shows. popular ones i hear pple talking about are the O.C. and stuff. hope i helped.

You could try just stopping random people in the hallways and doing personality-profile-type features on them. You know, the kind without quotes - five-hour-interview sort of things. We did a story on two kids who cut in our November issue, and we're really excited about it - we distribute the paper tomorrow. That line that everyone has a story? Totally true. Go back behind the dumpsters and interview the smokers. You'd be surprised what you get.

If you're looking for something more traditional, we do a Featured Artist story every month - all kinds of artists. We did a chef last issue. Those usually tend to be interesting, if only because the personality of your average artist is going to be unique.

As for entertainment, write reviews. Everyone likes reviews. Review parks. Do a joke review on your socks. Review the courtesy of your school's population - push a cub reporter down the stairs and see how many people out of ten pushes try to help him up. Review the different Chinese restaurants in your town, or review movie theaters, not the movies. Review thrift stores! Anything that's visible and usable can be reviewed.

Yes, even feet.
