Newspaper Paper

Crystal, 9/18/2005, 6:54:32 PM

I'm a part of a small (20 people max) Newspaper staff at a small school (no more than 250 people) and one of my responsibilities this year is printing. Last year, we used our school's copy machine. We had approximately 12 pages per issue, using tabloids and a 8.5" by 11" paper in between. It didn't cost us much, because we owed them whatever we made from advertisement which is basically nothing. It also created a major scheduling conflict with many of the staff--printing. Our printing staff had to sacrifice at least 2.5 hours each month to help copy, fold, and put together the newspaper.

This year, we want to find a printing shop or a publishing company that is able to take care of our printing needs. And we also want to use a different, more newspaper-ish type of paper (I think it's called Newsprint). How much money do you think it would cost for a 4 page newsprint(?) for 250 students on a monthly basis?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

We use J&S Printing in Birmingham, AL. They have tech support, templates, downloadable software. The paper comes back on 11X17 newsprint, and everyone is pumped because it looks like a real paper, not a newsletter. The minimum number of papers they print is less than the enrollment of our school, but I know it's worth the money. Find them online. Tell 'em the ACA Growler sent you!

A 4-page broadsheet at our printer is approx. $100 if I remember correctly. That's for 1500 copies. Quite a few printers, however, don't make a big deal over a number. At least from my experience.

We are a 12 page broadsheet and pay 300 per issue black and white. I tried to get the school to let us switch printers and save a ton of money (giving us more for new cameras and such) but they declined due to "tradition." Yuck.
