2005 Yearbook Theme Ideas

Lindsey Fussell, 8/17/2005, 3:51:36 PM

I am a senior this year and editor of our yearbook. This entails coming up with a unique and exciting theme for the book. Last year we used "When necessary use words" which was a great theme and hard to live up to. I was thinking "epoch" this year... "epoch" means a particular period of history especially one considered remarkable or noteworthy.. any feedback or suggestions?

Trust me i know the woes of trying to comeup with a theme worthy of your schools name. Your theme sounds good but one word isn't a theme you need cool tools and other effects. My only question is would the student body you make your book for know what epoch means or would you state waht it ment in the opening. Thats the only concern that I would voice. All and all it sounds good if you could think of nice cool tools.

yah that sounds pritty good but what is your school name? that kinda makes a diffrence. I am editor in my school for yearbook and im really excited, this is the first year the school has been open , well good luck

I'm a yearbook adviser who's sat through many years of theme discussions. To me, the best themes just pop off the page and make an immediate impresssion. If you have to explain much, it just doesn't work as effectively as you'd like. The idea behind "Epoch" could be a great one, but I think it would be difficult to communicate smoothly.

I Agree. You Need Something That Everyone can read and understand right away. The student body does not want to pay like 50 bucks for something that is too difficult to understand because it makes them feel dumb. You also need to use a good theme that everyone can relate to. Like change, all people have went through change, school, teachers, life, students. You need a universal theme, it could be physical or mental.

Any ideas?? Or themes or slogan we can use for our yearbook. Our homecoming thing this year was Paradise; Hawaiin type thing. Also we were thinking something to do with reality. Maybe even reality shows?

Breanna Elser, 10/17/2005, 2:32:15 PM
We are looking for some fun, creative covers and theme ideas for our school's yearbook!Last year the cover was plain and boring and this year our school wants fun and exiting covers. Our theme wasn't very good either!

Amanda Polizzi, 10/18/2005, 9:40:08 PM
Our school is thinking of Small town blues, but i thought it was getting a little too cliche, but i'm not sure. Anyone else have any ideas?

Betty, 10/25/2005, 8:48:02 PM
How about something a little more original you guys? Looking back? Follow your dreams? ect.. pretty sure it's all been done. Anyone have and UNIQUE idea.. i like the epoch idea though.. good and unique. The majority of ppl should know what it means. If they don't, they shouldn't be graduating.

This is my first year as a yearbook advisor *gulp*. Here is the theme we are going with...

Mystery of the Dragon.

This years grad class was all born under the year of the dragon sign on the Chinese calendar. I peronally like the theme but there has been a lot of discussion on how the theme is culturally exclusive. Perhaps only 40% of our school is Chinese. I had no idea that the Yearbook advisor position would be soooooo political. 8(

This is also my first year as editor, but its looking really good, our theme is "newly quoted" because our school was just remodled and throughout the entire yearbook there will be quotes from celebrities and students etc. there will but quotes in the shape of quotation marks, and all that jazz, were going all out with it, but its looking great!

I am on yearbook staff and we picked "Crossroads" as our theme. We used this because a new principal just took the helm of our school. We also tried to go "classic" for this year's book. In previous year's our covers were really flashy/busy, but this year we decided to just have the theme on the front with the name of our book and a black and white tip-on. Back to basics, sort of. I would say just pick a theme that all of your students can relate too but have some fun with it also.

Last year we used "This Picture Is Proof" but the only thing is you need good pictures. This year is really difficult. We are focusing around pride....

jessie nash, 11/16/2005, 4:29:26 PM
hey this year our class has not decided the theme of the yearbook and it is getting very irritating cause every one is fighting about it!!!

kim , 1/2/2006, 8:46:18 PM
i need some idea's for who's who.

Shannon, 1/28/2006, 1:07:14 AM
Last year we picked "The Great Divide" and no one understood it...you should probably go with something that everyone will be able to connect with. (I don't know if everyone knows what an epoch is.)

I am a yearbook sponsor and our school is celebrating it's 50th anniversary. Our theme is "Remember the Past Look to the Future". All of the sections are spins off the word look such as "Look at the Seniors", "Glance at the Juniors", Eye on the Sophomores, Peek at the Freshman, Observe the Clubs and Organizations, View the Arts, Watch the Sports, Glimpse at Student Life, Glance at the Ads, and One Last Look.

Previously, I have done a book using the theme "Unexpected". Everything was backward including the names within the people section.

Hey, i hope this can help someone. We used the theme "Lights, Camera, Action" for our yearbook. It was a HUGE success! The cover had a movie reel with pictures of the students. We used things like "Opening Act" for the Choir page, "Best Supporting Actress" for the cheerleading pages, "Now Playing" for band, and "Take 2006" for the senior superlatives. If you like the theme and need some more names for pages, email me at brainysmurf0507@wmconnect.com. Make the subject of the email "Yearbook."

madi, 3/2/2006, 7:38:21 AM
ive given "epoch" as a theme for a poerty festival:D:D..i think this idea is really great lindsey

jennifer, 3/3/2006, 6:45:58 PM
our yearbook staff is using a mastercard theme. have you ever seen those commercials for mastercard that are like...something...8dollars..something...20dollars...somethingelsePRICELESS. yes, that's what we're doing. for each grade level we're doing something like that. for example 8th grade:
plays at pasadena civic center...$36
east coast trip...$2000
frontier day...$15
all the memories...priceless.

Victoria, 3/9/2006, 4:55:11 PM
Our school just got sponsored by NASA so I was thinking Defy Gravity since it also applies to exceding limits, ect. what do u think?

jessiy, 3/27/2006, 9:57:05 AM
this year we used "define" as our theme. we used words like define defining defines in all of our stories and each spread had a definition on it that has to do with what is on the spread. our colophon i made to look like a dictionary and defined each staff member. we tried to choose pictures that really defined who we are and what we do. good luck.

holly, 4/3/2006, 6:30:48 PM
"emotion" worked really well for us - it seems blasé, but there are so many ways to play off of it. also, "defined as:" were cool ones from schools around ours from years past.

good luck!

My school has never had a themed yearbook before and this year we are redoing our yearbook over completely. We need help coming up with some theme ideas.Since that is the first step that we need to accomplish. I heard of theme packets but what do they consist of and what do you make the people do? So if anybody could offer some ideas and help that would be great!! Thanks
