What are the moral and legal issues of downloading music from the internet??

I have to answer this question for an assignment and was wondering what other people think.

Depends on where you download? Are you paying for it off iTunes or some other form of pay for downloads website? Are you just file sharing or "stealing" it? How are you using it? Making mass copies for friends? Making mass copies to sell? Just popping it into your iPod for yourself? There's many gray areas and different aspects to consider when answering this question.
