all color yearbooks

Susan, 7/10/2005, 9:00:56 PM

To those who have switched to all color yearbooks, what have been the plus and minus sides to the switch? How much do you currently sell your yearbook for and what is its size and number of pages? Did you have to increase selling price by a lot? How much did you increase advertising prices? Would you do it again if you had the option?

We went to all color this past year. The response was amazing. We got it for about 24k for 650 copies. We have 128 pages.

Ours is something like 176 pages and about 300 copies. About 25 grand for ours. It cost about $56 or so.

We tried all color last year. It was a BIG success. It cost $13,000 for 180 copies with 220 pages. We print, collate, and bind our books.

Which companies do you use? We are looking at All color and the price for 228 page is 40K.

We were actually able to lower the price that students pay when we switched to an all color book. We renegotiated our contract and were able to pay about half as much as before. With the extra money we decided to go all color. After one year of all color we lowered our price by $10 for this year. It was well worth it, the students loved it and its so awesome to see your pics in full color.

BUT, we sell 95% of our yearbooks at the start of the year in our parent packet that goes out to each student. (This is where we combine athletic, uniforms, ASB cards, yearbooks, etc. payments.)

This gets us all our money up front. Business advertising, baby ads, etc. bring in the profits above and beyond that.

If you don't already do that with parent packets, try to. Our PTO handles everything, I just make the flyer to put in the packet. Makes it easier for everyone.

Hope that helps.
