How to successfully make a yearbook and run a staff
Mercedes, 6/27/2005, 7:57:06 PM
Hello out there, I would just like to start off by thinking anyone who will be of help. Starting in the fall 2005, I will be Editor-in-chief for my school's college yearbook. Last school year I handle the finances, so I really didn't get much of a hands on experience with the program and so forth. I am a great leader and I know I can do this, I have great ideas ofr next year, but I would like some insight or advice as to basically how this thing works. How do we make yearbooks; our school uses Jostens and I know that and I've learned some of the program but I need to refresh myself on the basics. Like how to make the ladder, how to successfully run a staff, shouuld I have co-editors, how to encourage and maintain membership, creative ideas. I don't like the new Jostens online program, yea it cuts down on time by being able to send everything through the internet, but playing with the layout SUCKS! You must click on each peice to move it; is there anyway to contact the Jostens' rep and try and use some other type of program. ( i guess i should ask) but all my other questions, I would really like some suggestions. I'm also looking for sites that give toolkits for students, anything beyond my questions will also be worth while. Thank you again! *Excited Editor

well there is a website that has some great ideas and programs, www.herffjones.com i know that you use jostens, but some of the programs, tips and ideas used on the site may be of some help to you anyway and i think they can probably be used without having to convert to herff-jones.(which is a very good yearbook company, btw..haha) well i am the editor of my high school yearbook and i know that if our staff is big, yours is probably bigger. so i think that co-editors would be a great idea. we use them and have always been satisfied usually dont have any problems with it, USUALLY..haha well i hope that helps!!

My yearbook uses Jostens also. Your yearbook rep is supposed to give a course to you and your staff or provide one for you to attend. I think you should contact your rep. You can find their telephone # on www.jostens.com. Jostens uses other design programs. My yearbook uses Adobe Pagemaker 6.5, however the only problem with this for you will be finances because you have to buy color printers, ink. You also have to FedEx everything to Jostens via Next Day Delivery and when you have a lot of pages to submit, it can get costly. You could also use Adobe InDesign too but the finance issue remains.
