Peg, 9/26/2004, 12:22:22 PM

I know this topic has been done to death, but our newspaper staff is in search of a memorable tshirt slogan. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

Sometimes using staff inside jokes can work; the classic journalism quotes do get a bit old.

Our staff was looking at something like, "Trust me, I'm a reporter" (only we may have to change it to "Trust me, I'm with the press" or something of the sort, since the reporter thing ruffled the feathers of our photographer).

A really good quote is by Gloria Steinem: "The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off." It's not as stiff or literary, but it's still relevant. Sometimes the more "stiff" quotes bore staff members.

Ours from last year said... Yearbook is slave labor. (Back)- Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains.

Front: Pocket logo of book name, volume

Back: "I always knew that looking back on the tears would make me laugh, but I never knew that looking back on the laughs would make me cry."

My adviser always wanted our shirts to say
"We lede by anecdote"

Clever, huh?

What happens once a month and causes problems when late?

Deadlines.

Hehe. Best bad journalism joke I've heard in a long time.

Someone suggested to me "Pace yourselves."

Also, it helps to use tidbits from off-topic, off-the-record staff conversations. We ended up with "I have a camera. Don't move or I'll shoot." and such for our photographers; "Certified Paparazzi" is also a good one.

Parodies are fun. "We break stories -- the editor fixes them."

And just a hint -- there are good programs out there that can do t-shirt design; even Word or other basic word programs can probably flip a design over. If you get t-shirt transfer paper, printing out the transfers and making the shirts yourselves can save a heck of a lot of money -- just be sure that you get good quality paper and ink.

Our staff decided to charicture every member and draw them as super heroes. As a group, we decided on how to draw every member. It proved to be an invaluable bonding exercise...not to mention, we're going to have some pretty sweet t-shirts.

I'm designing the T-shirt for our Newspaper class, and I am making a cariacture of each staff member into a superhero, based on an interesting character trait of each individual. They're going to be great!

We're using "We've got issues" like we have issues of the paper and that we are crazy. Great pun isn't it?

Tiffany, 2/2/2005, 8:25:33 AM
We used "Get your Papes" from the newsies! It was a big hit!

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.

wow, great ideas. I here it's a great money selling these t-shirts. I would love be a T-shirt Blogger too, but I don't have the money to print many. I have plenty great ideas or blogs I'd like to put on my tshirt. Any suggestions.

Last week we found some old T-shirts in our newspaper room...some of them were actually kind of funny:

Lion...not just a paper, it's a lifestyle

Skateboarding is not a crime, but censorship is

barb valente, 6/10/2005, 10:57:41 PM
our t-shirts said our newspaper name on the front. On the back we picked up Franklin's quote:

"If you can give up essential liberties to obtain a little temporary safety ...you deserve neither safety nor libery."

We placed the quote in an American flag.

Lots of positive comments and requests for the shirts.

Our yearbook staff used "Simply the best yet." for this past year's kick-off shirt b/c it described our expectations for the year and the book! Try summing up something by something as simple as this!
