Contest and Critique Coordinator

Salary: $32,000 to $35,000 DOE. Generous and competitive benefits package includes full medical and dental insurance, paid holidays, paid vacation and up to 7% match on 403(b) retirement plan.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Basic Function
The person in this position is responsible for coordinating one of the organizations core functions: contests and critiques. Contests include national, regional and state competitions both mail-in and on-site at conventions. Critiques include roughly 1,000 evaluations of student media. Main responsibilities include assembling judging panels, processing critique requests, shipping materials to judges, recruiting qualified judges, enforcing judging standards and representing the organization when interacting with members. Additional responsibilities include developing and coordinating events for Minnesota high school journalists. This is a nonsupervisory position. Travel to conventions, including some weekends, is required.

Leadership
Participates in the development and implementation of strategic planning for the organization
Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in media and journalism education
Prioritizes, organizes and schedules own job tasks
Writes reports and compiles statistics for executive director and board of directors in a complete, accurate and timely manner
Demonstrates responsible use of organization's resources and strong ethics at all times

Program Management
Ensures programs run efficiently and on time
Assesses, researches and implements program improvement and expansion
Develops goals and plans that advance the mission and health of the organization
Seeks and acts on opportunities to increase revenue and to reduce expenses

External Relations
Creates and maintains relations appropriate to fulfill organization's priorities and objectives
Cultivates and maintains partnerships with affiliated organizations and individuals
Promotes awareness of the needs of the membership
Networks with and forms productive and supportive relationships with partner organizations, members and exhibitors/sponsors
Represents the organization and the organizational point of view to agencies, organizations and the general public

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preserves the integrity of the programs and organization
  • Demonstrates commitment to NSPA/ACP's mission and vision
  • Supports overall growth of the organization
  • Maintains positive and healthy relationship with co-workers and other related parties
  • Assists where needed as a team player
  • Contributes to a safe, respectful, and healthy atmosphere and environment
  • Participates in special projects as necessary
  • Attends all meetings and trainings as required

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • B.A. degree in journalism, public relations, marketing/business or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Program coordinator experience preferred
  • Experience as a journalist or journalism educator preferred
  • Experience working with youth preferred
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
