Advertising/Media Kits

Hi, I'm trying to create a media/advertising kit for my publication--an independent, progressive leaning paper in a small town--and I'm curious as to what I should include. I know the basics, such as my ad rates, but what else typically goes into these kind of kits?

I'm putting a media kit together too for my senior project. We're starting a sports magazine. Some of the things I would put in there are a demographic summary, the focus/ mission of the newspaper and circulation. I would say market the readers, not as much the paper.

Sarah - I would search various college newspapers they often have pdf's on file of their media/adverising kits.

Here's our rate card. Our previous version won a few awards. I want to say we won at ACP, but not sure right now off the top of my head.

Joe is correct, the Star won honorable mention for their rate card in 2005's ACP Advertising Awards.

Also, Unimedia.org just built a document library to serve as a resource for these kinds of things. I would encourage anyone with rate cards or media kits in PDF format to add them to the library.
