Switching to Indesign from Pagemaker

Cari, 9/16/2005, 10:25:57 AM

I work for a place that produces 2 town newspapers per week. I am desperately trying to get them updated in their process. They are still doing paste-up for layout on part of the paper. The second half of the paper is done through Pagemaker. All of our Ads are done in pagemaker also, which I have found through testing, seem to get alot of type reflow when brought into InDesign. Which in turn creates a HUGE problem when merging all the ads on layout. I really need some help and advice on making a smooth turnover to the year 2005 from the stone-age. Should I make PDF's out of all the ads then bring them into InDesign? or should I just stuff a sock in it and deal with the type reflow. HELP I am pulling my hair out.

Personally, how we do it here at Texas Tech, we create all of the ads as PDF files. Then in InDesign, we place all of the ads, and then the copy can be placed on the page. It's a lot more simple when you make the ads PDFs. We made the transition about a year ago, and we haven't looked back. InDesign makes life a lot easier. If you have anymore questions, let me know. My email is dailytoreador@ttu.edu. Thanks

in our school paper, we usually ask our advertiser to give us the tiff file of their ads in cd. for some who gives us jpeg files, we just convert them to tiff files. colored files are in cmyk format and black and white files are in grayscale format. all in 300dpi.

One of the problems you are probably having is with the style palettes when switching the programs. Setting up styles can take time, but then everything should flow.
