NOLA convention

Brianna B. , 7/6/2005, 7:00:54 PM

I am a transfer student (well, I've been at my current college for a semester now) and am new to how things work between our advisor and our Board of Directors. I have learned that journalism conventions are not, and have not been part of the paper. The staff will car pool and attend ICPA (Indiana's state thing) and that's about it.

My problem is that the few workshops offered at such a small convention do not benefit our staff. I am currently in the process of writing a proposal with a budget and some information on why and how the NOLA convention could be useful to our staff. I plan on asking for three to four people to go. The budget for three is around $1,750 if we drive 900 miles. Not out of the question as we're college students who enjoy the roadtrips.

That last few national conventions that I've been to were in high school and when I went to college I was a volunteer for the high school conventions as a runner and instructor.

If any of you have been to an ACP convention and it was helpful (the workshop variety, what you were able to bring back to your staff, how you proposed going, etc.) could you please share?

Thanks so much,
Brianna Belford, Managing Editor

Hey Bri -- I suggest you wheedle your publisher until she gives in... it worked for me when I asked her for $14,000 for new furniture, computers, and design software.

Keep the peace! ;-)
